Accicentally Erased the complete data from Apalis iMX6Q Modules. It is in non-bootable state now. What to do?

Dear Toradex Team,

Hoping you guys will be quite well. I’m here to get some solution regarding flashing of Apalis modules. Accidentally, I erased complete data of a module from the Toradex Easy Installer’s installation Widget. And now, it is in non-bootable state. When powering to these modules, we cannot see any activities (i.e., boot logs) in the terminal. You might be suggesting of checking the wirings & connections, but all are good with the other modules. There are 2 -3 modules, which are non-bootable. Two of them were erased its data from the Toradex Easy Installers Widget. There is one “Erase” option which was executed accidentally.

Hardware Details:
Apalis iMX6Q 1GB V1.1A

I’m here to get helps from your IT team/developers. Please provide a documentation, if possible, where I can find the solutions regarding this issue.

Thanks & Regards!

Hello Pankaj,

Thank you for reaching out. I understand the situation with your Apalis iMX6Q modules, and I’m here to help you restore them to a bootable state using the Toradex Easy Installer.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to assist you:

  1. Prepare for Recovery Mode:

    • Connect your Apalis iMX6Q module to your host PC using a USB cable. Ensure the module is powered off before starting the recovery process.
  2. Enter Recovery Mode:

    • To enter recovery mode, you typically need to use a specific method provided by the module’s documentation. This often involves using a software tool or a specific sequence of actions. Please refer to the module’s datasheet or hardware manual for detailed instructions on entering recovery mode without physical modifications.
  3. Use Toradex Easy Installer:

    • On your host PC, download and install the Toradex Easy Installer if you haven’t already.
    • Launch the Toradex Easy Installer. It should detect the module in recovery mode.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to select and flash a new image onto the module. You can choose from available images or provide a custom image if needed.
  4. Complete the Flashing Process:

    • Once the flashing process is complete, power cycle the module by turning it off and then on again.
    • The module should now boot with the newly flashed image.

By following these steps, you should be able to restore your Apalis iMX6Q modules to a bootable state. If you encounter any issues during this process, ensure that all connections are secure and that the correct procedures are followed as per the documentation.

I hope this helps you get your modules up and running again.

Best regards,

Sorry to say but… Even after following the Recovery Mode methods (software and hardware both ways), It doesn’t enter in Recovery Mode. When we supply power to my module, it does not display any activites in the terminal window (minicom terminal). But, those modules, which are in working state, are able to enter in Recovery Mode.

Hi @pankaj_rtvision,
After erasing the flash, did you not install the OS?
Erasing flash does not corrupt the module and hardware recovery should work fine.
What error you get when you run Toradex easy installer script after entering into recovery mode?

Thank you @sahil.tx !
It worked. :innocent: By short-circuiting the recovery pins, I was able to enter Recovery Mode.

Thanks a lot!
