HDMI Display on Mallow carrier board

Hello guys,
This is a simple question, I just want to use the Toradex easy installer on my Mallow Carrier Board, I’m using it with Verdin iMX8MM and there is any video output via HDMI, how can I make it work?

Thank you.

To use the Toradex Easy Installer (Tezi) on your Mallow Carrier Board with a Verdin iMX8MM and get video output via HDMI, you will need to use the Verdin DSI to HDMI Adapter. Here are the steps you can follow:

  1. Connect the Verdin DSI to HDMI Adapter:

    • Attach the Verdin DSI to HDMI Adapter to the MIPI® DSI connector on your Mallow Carrier Board.
  2. Setup Cables:

    • Connect all necessary cables to your Carrier Board, including the HDMI cable from the Verdin DSI to HDMI Adapter to your display/monitor.
    • Ensure the display/monitor is connected before powering on the board, as HDMI hotplug is not supported.
  3. Download and Prepare Tezi:

    • Download the Toradex Easy Installer image from the Toradex website.
    • Unzip the downloaded package.
  4. Put Your SoM in Recovery Mode:

    • Follow the instructions to put your Verdin iMX8MM into recovery mode. This typically involves using a specific button combination or jumper settings on the carrier board.
  5. Load Tezi:

    • If using the USB OTG approach, connect the USB OTG cable from your host computer to the carrier board.
    • Run the appropriate script from the unzipped Tezi package on your host computer to load the installer into the module’s RAM.
  6. Boot Tezi:

    • Once Tezi is loaded, the GUI should appear on your HDMI-connected display.

Verdin iMX8MM: no HDMI output for 7inch screen.

Why I can’t use the HDMI port?

Because the Verdin iMX8M Mini module has no native HDMI interface. More advanced carrier boards like the Dahlia or Verdin Development Board use a mezzanine DSI-to-HDMI converter. This allows Verdin modules without a native HDMI interface to provide an HDMI port. To get video output via HDMI on the Mallow board, you need to use modules with a native HDMI interface, such as the Verdin iMX8M Plus."

Thank you so much Alex!
So, this display will be compatible with my Verdin iMX8MM and the Mallow carried board?

I will use it with Torizon OS running QT application in a Docker container.

Thank you.

No, that display has an LVDS interface and according to the Verdin iMX8MM datasheet:

Since the Verdin iMX8M Mini module features only MIPI DSI video output and the Mallow board has no any DSI -to -something else bridge the only compatible type of display will be a display with MIPI DSI interface like this one:

I see, so, for using that display should I buy the Verdin iMX8M Plus right?

Yes, the Verdin iMX8M Plus has a native LVDS interface, so that display should work with the Mallow board, but you need to build a custom cable and create an overlay.

Sorry but, what you mean by “Cable”?

I meant two connectors—one matching the Mallow LVDS connector and the other matching your display connector, wired together.
