Apalis Ixora Serial port Garbage output

Hi,

I am new to Apalis and Ixora. I tried to connect to the serial console thru the UART1 on Ixora board connect X22. I set the port speed to 115200 8N1 accordingly. When I boot up the board, I found the first few lines show correctly but after a few lines it shows garbage. May I ask anything wrong or setting I need to do with the board? In the attached file please find the screen captures for tera term.

Your settings for serial communication are ok.

Could you please share more information by answering the following questions?

  • Which exact Apalis iMX8 module are you using? Please share its full name and version.
  • Which version of Ixora carrier board are you using?
  • You are using some RS232-to-USB converter, right?
  • How reproducible is this behavior?
    • Does it always show the same top lines without an issue? Or does it change which lines are shown without issue?
  • Are you capable of connecting via SSH with this module?
  • Could it be some bad wiring?

Some tests that you could execute:

  • Do you have any other Apalis module (it doesn’t need to be iMX8QM) that you could test with this Ixora board?
  • Also, do you have another Ixora board that you could test with your Apalis iMX8?

    • Apalis imX8 QuadMax 4GB Wifi/Bluethhoth IT RevB

  • Which version of Ixora carrier board are you using?

    • Ixora V1.2A 22024185

  • You are using some RS232-to-USB converter, right?

    • Yes, I use RS232-to-USB converter

  • How reproducible is this behavior?

    • yes, it is reproducible

    • Does it always show the same top lines without an issue? Or does it change which lines are shown without issue?

      • yes, the top lines are same

  • Are you capable of connecting via SSH with this module?

    • I can connect the easy installer thru usb port without problem

  • Could it be some bad wiring?

    • Looks like that the cable is soldered in good condition.

Thanks for your fast answer.
I have found a thread with a similar issue, and the cause seemed to be the serial adapter (USB-RS232).

Which one are you using?

I have another additional question: are you using one of our serial cables (10 pin header to 9 pin SUB-D) or did you make it yourself?
If so, could you please share with us the schematics of such cable?

Have you tried another terminal program? Like PuTTY or minicom? And as Denrigue asked - Do you have any other Apalis module (it doesn’t need to be iMX8QM) that you could test with this Ixora board?

Could you try to load Toradex Easy Installer via USB OTG as described here.
