Yocto Linux or Torizon

I have some questions about Torizon.

What percentage of all users use Torizon?

Can Torizon use hardware acceleration such as Gstreamer, OpenGL and Tensorflow-lite?

If not, are users who need hardware acceleration, such as iMX8, using yocto Linux?

Best regards.

Greetings @developer0916,

What percentage of all users use Torizon?

Before we talk about users of Torizon. Please keep in mind that Torizon as an OS has only been released for a relatively small fraction of time, compared to the lifespan of Toradex as a company.

Therefore the numbers are still a bit early to really compare with our other offerings. What I can say is that we observe new customers trending towards Torzion in majority.

Can Torizon use hardware acceleration such as Gstreamer, OpenGL and Tensorflow-lite?

In general if our Yocto Linux BSP supports such acceleration then Torizon should as well. And if not then the support should be soon if it is present in our BSP. With regards to the ones you listed:

  • Gstreamer: Should generally be accelerated. However certain formats may not be.
  • OpenGL: Graphics should also generally be accelerated on all Torizon platforms.
  • Tensorflow-lite: We do have an example of this (Torizon Sample: Image Classification with Tensorflow Lite | Toradex Developer Center). However it is only ran on the CPU at the moment. We are currently in the process of working on GPU/NPU acceleration for this.

If not, are users who need hardware acceleration, such as iMX8, using yocto Linux?

Our Torizon offering is built on top of our Yocto Linux offering. Therefore the support for hardware acceleration should be the same. If certain acceleration is not supported. It is most likely not supported in Torizon or Yocto Linux.

I hope these helped clarify your questions. Please let me know if you have further questions.

Best Regards,
Jeremias
