Hi,
Does anyone have Wifi Direct (aka P2P) working with the LM816 using the BSP?
Over in another thread @marcel.tx and @dominik.tx indicated that old ad-hoc stuff isn’t supported and recommended using Wifi Direct, which is what I want to do.
Documentation in the general linux-sphere is sparse at best. Hoping to find the Toradex answer first.
Dave
Hi @jaski.tx ,
Environment:
Apalis i.MX6/Ixora v1.1
Linux 4.9.87-2.8.4
We need peer to peer networking with no configuration between my device and a smartphone. That’s what Wifi Direct is designed for. Using “ad hoc” is a legacy option that might also work.
We are prototyping with this LM816 module per Toradex sales. The data sheet says “Can be setup as an ad-hoc network for peer to peer communication”.
We will use a “proper” wifi module integrated with our own carrier board for the production version. We will use whatever wifi module Toradex recommends for that. However, we don’t feel comfortable waiting for “coming soon” boards. Nor can we use a single core SOM.
So, what does Toradex support/recommend for Wifi Direct? We want to use whatever you already have working/proven. Not trying to reinvent the wheel.
Thanks,
Dave
hi @mk1rallyrabbit
Sorry that I answer you now.

Yeah, but unfortunately the current linux driver is not supporting ad-hoc or wifi direct. We are looking to change to a different driver, which may provide in future the ad-hoc or wifi functionality.

I recommended iMX8 or iMX6ull, since the Setup is working for Adhoc or Wifi direct. What is the timeline for your product?

We cannot recommend you any specific devices but just give some guidelines. You can go for any pci express based wifi solution, which has a linux driver. You can also put the Azurewave AW-CM276NF on your carrier board, this is the chip used in iMX6ULL.
