Wifi / bluetooth and antenna on colibri imx8x

Hello,

I have a question about antennas on colibri imx8x module.

I have tested without antenna : it don’t work , nor wifi neither bluetooth.

I have provided 3 antennas :

  • molex 146153
  • molex 204281
  • unicron AA222

I have worked on wifi first. I’ve plugged the antenna on connector “MAIN” and then, it worked well. Better SNR and signal. I’ve done all my tests like this and it was ok.

Then, I test now the bluetooth, and I let the antenna on “MAIN”. With this setup, the bluetooth don’t work , the detection is very bad, and I detect only time to time a device and disappear after.

I tested the 3 antennas, no difference.

I’ve checked the documentation (datasheet ) no preconisation or information about antennas.

And at last, I decided to test the “AUX” port. And with this port, the bluetooth works well, I detect all the devices. I swap from MAIN to AUX, with/without antenna, and it appears that it is the “AUX” port that must be used for bluetooth.

I tested again the wifi , but with the “AUX” port, and there is the same SNR/signal like “MAIN” port.

So, the conclusion is :

  • to use wifi : I can use “MAIN” and/or “AUX” port for the antenna
  • to use bluetooth : I can use only “AUX” port for the antenna.

Is this correct ? I don’t want to plug 2 antennas, so can i use only AUX for both bluetooth and wifi ? Or if I want to use both at the same time I should have 2 antennas plugged ?

Thanks for reading.

Hi @f.mazur

Thanks for writing to the Toradex community!

So, the conclusion is : - to use wifi : I can use “MAIN” and/or “AUX” port for the antenna - to use bluetooth : I can use only “AUX” port for the antenna.

Yes, your conclusion is correct.

You can use one antenna for Wifi and Bluetooth. The needed software for this operation are described here.

Thank you for your answer, there is a lot of things on the developer knowledge base ^^ I didn’t find this information, thank you, it is exactly what I needed.

Best regards,

F. MAZUR.

You are welcome.
