Verdin iMX8MM Dev Board DSI-HDMI Connetor

Hi all,

We’re currently migrating from NXP IMX8MM EVK to Verdin iMX8MM and we bought the iMX8MM dev board V1.1B. Our display has this connector has an output is there any adaptor that I can use to make it work? Because the current DSI-HDMI provide by Toradex it requires a HDMI input. Thanks a lot.

Regards,
Ruben

Connector you mentioned is Mini-SAS and mostly it used for storage applications. What is your display interface?

Hi @alex.tx,

It’s a DSI-MIPI, we currently use the NXP port DSI-MIPI on the NXP IMX8MM EVK.

Ruben

We don’t have an adapter for your display. You can create your own one based on NXP IMX8MM EVK schematic. As a workaround you can use a small size HDMI display with Toradex DSI-HDMI adapter.

Hi @alex.tx,

Do you think I can use the HDMI port of the Verdin development kit? Because I tried to connect a regular HDMI monitor to that port, but I didn’t have any signal from the monitor.

Ruben

Are you talking about X37 HDMI connector located on the board? This is for modules with native HDMI interface. Verdin iMX8M mini modules do not have a native HDMI. So you need a DSI->HDMI adapter. You will also need to apply a proper Device Tree Overlay to make it work.

Hi @alex.tx,

Yes, so even if the X37 is populated it doesn’t work? We have the DSI-HDMI adapter and the native HDMI works with it. We will build our adapter hard wired first from Mini-SAS to the Toradex Mezzanine, do you any part number that sells the Mezzanine connector with a cable instead of the one that is soldered to the board?

Thanks,
Ruben

If you insert a Verdin module with native HDMI (like Verdin iMX8 plus) that connector will work.

Sorry I don’t fully understand your second question. All parts you can buy from us are listed here. BOM for Verdin Dev board is available here.

The Mezzanine connector (on BOM for Verdin Dev board) that goes on the Verdin Development board its a SMD that you solder in the board. My question if there is the same connector but through hole

Sorry I have no knowledge about same connector but through hole. On our adapter board we using SMD connector Samtec LSS-130-03-L-DV-A-K-TR. This connector has 0.635 mm pitch and most likely that through hole version with such a small pitch itch just doesn’t exist. I recommend to ask Sametec if it does. I’d just create an adapter similar to mentioned DSI-HDMI with 2 SMD connectors. 0ne is Samtec LSS-130-03-L-DV-A-K-TR and a second one for Mini- SAS

Thank you so much, @alex.tx !

We will do that.

You are very welcome. Please note that we have an Altium design files (schematic and PCB ) for that HDMI adapter so you can use it as base for your adapter.
