Hello,
I have question about RTC in Verdin AM62 (RX8130CE). I want to use EDLC and for it, it must have to manage of charging the EDLC. However, I could not find out how the verdin board is configured and whether it is possible to set the EDLC charging to occur automatically, or this function (charging / no charging is available throught I2C ?).
Also, I have not been able to find out what minimum voltage on the Vbat input requires to be able to calculate the EDLC capacitance and how long the selected capacitance will allow a reliable RTC backup.
Best Regards
Ivan

Hello Ivan,
Based on the context provided, there are several uncertainties regarding the RX8130CE RTC on the Verdin AM62 board, particularly concerning the management of EDLC charging and the minimum voltage requirements for the Vbat input.
-
EDLC Charging Management: The documentation does not specify whether the charging function for the EDLC can be set to occur automatically or if it is controlled via I2C commands. This suggests a gap in the available information, and further investigation into the RX8130CE documentation or the Verdin AM62 specifications may be necessary to clarify these functionalities.
-
Minimum Voltage Requirements: The minimum voltage required on the Vbat input for the RX8130CE RTC to function properly is not specified in the provided data. This information is crucial for calculating the EDLC capacitance and ensuring reliable RTC backup. You may need to refer to the RX8130CE datasheet or related technical documentation to obtain this critical detail.
-
Duration of RTC Backup: The duration for which the selected EDLC capacitance will provide reliable RTC backup is also not detailed in the available data. You may need to conduct your own calculations or refer to external resources for this information.
In summary, to address your questions, I recommend consulting the RX8130CE datasheet and the Verdin AM62 board’s technical documentation for more detailed information on these aspects. If these documents do not provide the necessary details, reaching out to Toradex support or the community forums might be helpful for further assistance.

Hi @ivanmahdik!
Sorry for the delayed response.
Regarding the RX8130CE, I’ve found this documentation about how to implement it. It has a function called aux-voltage-chargeable
that tells the RTC if the battery/supercapacitor is chargeable or not.
I didn’t find the minimum voltage of the Vbat input on the RTC datasheet, but the current consumption table says Vbat = 3V, so it could be a starting point.
Feel free to ask if you have any doubts.
Best regards.
