Updated BSP, L4.14.78_1.0.0_ga

Hi all,

the current BSP for the apalis IMX8 board references the branch morty-4.9.51-8mq_ga which is based on the rather old morty version of yocto (2.2).

For our evaluation, especially to run a more up to date version of browsers, we would need a newer yocto version.

On January 18 NXP published the release L4.14.78_1.0.0_ga which is based on the Sumo branch (2.5), providing also chromium v64.

L4.14.78_1.0.0_ga is also the first GA release for the whole i.MX6, i.MX7, i.MX8 family.

Is there a plan to release anytime soon a newer BSP which based on L4.14.78_1.0.0_ga?

Regards

Georg

Yes, we already have this working internally and will push sources within the next few days. Full release (e.g. including tested binaries) is planned later this Q1.

Hi @marcel.tx,

as we are near the end of Q1 now  is there any news regarding the upcoming full release?

Georg

BTW: I flagged this question private only initally, but think that the info would be interesting for other as well. Could it be made publically available for others early access users?

Yes, luckily Q1 is not quite over just yet (;-p).

While the Colibri iMX8QXP V1.0B (V1.0A simply no longer supported) side of things is almost ready the Apalis iMX8QM V1.0A vs. V1.0B side of things proves slightly more involved. With that said we should hopefully have something ready soon.

Hi @marcel.tx,

in the meanwhile a new version appeared for the module “Apalis iMX8QM V1.0B”, which is based on sumo-4.14.78-1.0.0_ga.

My Apalis board has a label “V1.1A, 00000868”. I wonder if now I can run the SW meant for 1.0B on this board. The version V1.1A doesn’t appear on the mentioned page.

I assume what you consider your board’s version is just the one from the carrier board. However, what would be relevant here is the module’s version as seen on its label sticker (e.g. below the heat sink). However, most likely you do have a V1.0A booting exclusively from SD card which is simply no longer supported, sorry.

I had a look. Indeed we have a V1.0A module. Thanks for the clarification.

You are very welcome.
