Power consumption of Colibri iMX7 Dual

Hi @alex.tx,

I’m measuring consumption of module + Iris board.

First time, I attach iMX7D to Iris board and supply power for Iris board. After that, I see the consumption value

Hi @tuanphan . What is the version of you LXDE? How do your measure the power consumption? For example, measure the current and voltage of the power adapter. Is any display connected to Iris?

Hi @benjamin.tx ,

I don’t remember exactly LXDE version. But now, I’m testing with “TorizonCore with Evaluation Containers”! (lasted version) and measuring consumption value like below (around 2.3W). Don’t have any LCD connect, just only iMX7D + IRIS board

Hi @tuanphan,

according to your picture some consumer is plugged in to USB-A connector. As well something is connected to Iris 40pin header.

Headless Iris V1.1A + IMX7D at my side. ~1.1W in u-boot, ~1.0W in Linux, idle, ~1.2W in Linux at 200% CPU load (few seconds after launching rngd without any arguments).

Hi @Edward ,

Actually, I don’t connect to anything at 40pin header. Could you help me explain more detail about u-boot why consumption is 1W? What is the headless?

I’m experiencing CPU in Linux is 4%. Anyway, I don’t know why my result is difference with above this one

Many thanks!

Do you mean why staying in U-Boot shows higher power consumption than idle mode Linux? I guess it’s due to Linux clock governor and other power saving features.

Please correct me if I’m wrong, but I think that headless means no monitor/LCD (as well no mouse and/or keyboard), just various ports like RS232 / USB / Ethernet / etc.

Did you check your PS shows right numbers? With 2W+ CPU or something else on Colibri/Iris should be too hot to keep them touching longer.

Hi @Edward ,

I have already checked again and change another iMX7D board with the same OS. It’s the same situation before.

About Colibri+Iris board, it’s not too hot. How long does it take you to get ~1W from boot? Do you have any another idea?

Regard,

Hi @tuanphan , TorizonCore Upstream 5.3.0-devel-202106+build.14 will launch 3 containers by default. These consume some CPU resources. When containers are stopped and peripherals excepting the power supply are disconnected, I get 104mA/12V on Iris V1.1A plus Colibri iMX7D 1GB V1.1A.

Hi @benjamin.tx ,

I think I will test one more time with the same your situation.

One more time, thanks you very much!
