For 64-bit you really need at least 8GB of RAM per CPU core.
Personally I highly recommend one of these old things. Just be sure you tell them you want all of the drive caddies so you can add more drives. 128GB of RAM is a lot of breathing room. Those old CAD workstations/servers are available on eBay and other places for cheap these days.
