LVDS connection in Apalis imx8 Evaluation Board v1.1cd

I have connected my Apalis Evaluation Board to the LVDS display. I had made the connections as per the steps mentioned in the Toradex website. I had then booted the board with the image in the emmc (without inserting the SD card). The booting was successful, but I am not able to view anything on the LVDS display. The LVDS display is getting powered up but there is no GUI image visible on the screen, whereas the same image was visible on the HDMI device.

Hand-shake,

When you’re unable to view the GUI on an LVDS display connected to an Apalis iMX8 Evaluation Board, despite the display receiving power and the GUI being visible on an HDMI device, it suggests that the issue might be related to the display configuration or the device tree settings not being properly set up for the LVDS display.

Here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

  1. Check the Display Configuration: Ensure that the display configurations in U-Boot environment variables are set correctly for the LVDS display. The configuration might differ from that of an HDMI display. You may need to set the correct display resolution, timings, and interface type specific to your LVDS display.

  2. Device Tree Configuration: The device tree must be configured correctly for the LVDS display to work. This involves specifying the correct display timings, interface, and pin mappings for the LVDS. You might need to modify the device tree to match your LVDS display’s specifications.

  3. Driver Support: Ensure that the Linux kernel being used has support for the LVDS interface and the specific display controller used by your LVDS display. Lack of driver support or incorrect driver configuration can lead to the display not showing any output.

  4. Check the Power Supply: Although you mentioned the display is getting powered up, ensure that the power supply to the LVDS display is stable and meets the display’s requirements.

  5. Cable and Connection Check: Verify that the LVDS cable is correctly and securely connected to both the display and the evaluation board. A loose connection or incorrect wiring can cause the display not to show any output.

  6. Console Output: Check the console output during boot for any errors related to the display interface or drivers. This can provide clues on what might be going wrong.

  7. Test with a Known Configuration: If possible, test the LVDS display with a known working configuration or a different board to rule out any issues with the display itself.

  8. Software Version: Ensure that you are using a compatible version of the Torizon software with your hardware. Incompatibilities between the software and hardware versions can lead to various issues, including display problems.

If after following these steps the issue persists, it might be necessary to review the specific configurations and modifications made to the device tree and display settings in more detail. Ensuring that these configurations match the requirements of your LVDS display is crucial for successful operation.

Hi @Nikitha ,
If you are using the LVDS display from Toradex. then you can directly apply the overlay given here.
In case you are using some other LVDS display, you may need to adjust the display settings and then apply the overlay.
Let me know if you need more information.
