Hello! You can load the Toradex Easy Installer (TEZI) on your Verdin iMX8M Plus using an SD card, even without access to the USB OTG port. Here is how you can do it:

1. Prepare the SD card:

  • Format your SD card as FAT32 or EXT4.
  • Download the Toradex Easy Installer image and extract its contents to the root directory of your SD card.
  • In the SD card root directory, rename the file named boot-tezi.scr to boot.scr.

2. Boot sequence:

  • On the Verdin iMX8M Plus, the default boot order prioritizes the SD card (mmc1) before the eMMC and other devices, so it should automatically try to boot from the SD card if it is inserted.

3. Install TEZI:

  • Insert the prepared SD card into your carrier board.
  • Power on the device.
  • The module will boot from the SD card, and the Toradex Easy Installer should start automatically.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to proceed with installing your desired OS image.

4. (Optional) Automatic installation for production:

  • If you want the installation to run automatically (useful for production), set "autoinstall": true in the image.json file located on your SD card.

5. (Optional) Verify contents in U-Boot:
If you want to check the SD card contents in U-Boot, you can use:

fatls mmc 1:1

Hi @sankarn!

You can find the step-by-step in this guide.

Feel free to ask if you have any doubts.

Best regards.

Thanks for the reference,
I have extracted the toradex easy installer in root directory of SD card, i can’t find steps to launch toradex easy installer in our carrier board, can you give steps that need to be followed, we are planning to load tezi using sd card and install os using pendrive

Hi @sankarn!

You should extract the content of the TEZI zip into the root of the SD Card. Be careful when extracting it, because you will see the Verdin-iMX8MP_ToradexEasyInstaller_7.2.0+build.5 folder, but you need the files within it, as in the following example:

lucas@lucasa-nb:/media/lucas/2cf15454-9210-44bd-a51c-9fd6679026fd$ tree
.
├── boot.scr
├── image.json
├── imx-boot-recoverytezi
├── imx-boot-sd
├── overlays.txt
├── recovery
│ ├── uuu
│ ├── uuu.auto
│ └── uuu.exe
├── recovery-linux.README
├── recovery-linux.sh
├── recovery-windows.bat
├── recovery-windows.README
├── tezi.itb
├── tezi.png
└── wrapup.sh

2 directories, 15 files

After that, you must insert the SD card into your board and power it on. It should start the TEZI automatically.

I’ve tested it and it worked. Feel free to ask if you face any issues.

Besides that, you don’t need to use a pendrive to install the operating system. You can use only the SD Card, extracting the image to the root partition of it, as in the following example:

is it required to be in recovery mode while loading TEZI through SD card

Hi @sankarn!

From what I’ve tested, it is not.

Best regards.

Thanks for the response,

I have extracted the TEZI in the SD Card as shown in attached picture, then i have inserted the sdcard into the carrier board and then i have powered on but the tezi is not loading, the old OS 's splash screen is loading, is there anything need to be done while booting.

Hi @sankarn!

Are these files in the root of the SD Card? These files must be in the root, otherwise it won’t start the TEZI. I’ve tested it again, and it worked as said before.

Best regards.
