I’m working on a Apalis-TK1 with Linux4Tegra 21.7 image (Apalis-TK1_L4T-Image-Tezi_21.7-2.8b3)

The boot procdure stops a this time, with no prompt shown (desktop environment is diabled by choice)

It is not the first time I have this situation… it happened also on another sample of development, in the exact same way (after a few days in which it worked correctly)

Is there any suggestion?

It looks like whatever you did, enabled SELinux support in Ubuntu, unfortunately provided kernel does not support SELinux.
You can try compiling your own kernel with SELinux enabled, or use latest defconfig in http://git1.toradex.com/cgit/linux-toradex.git/log/?h=toradex_tk1_l4t_r21.7-next and add
selinux=1 security=selinux to kernel cmdline in uboot.

this toradex image provides Linux4Tegra with selinux enabled and a kernel without selinux support?

After flashing 've rebooted many times without problem (in log of theese succesfully boot, i see selinux error messages too) but a certain moment, after reboot it has stopped to work.

Now i’ve a unbootable system, how can i check if the problem is selinux and how can i disable it on Linux4Tegra? (i don’t want to enable it in my production purposes)

what’s the content of /etc/fstab and /etc/selinux/config?

  • /etc/selinux/config not present, after your suggestion i’ve created one with this content:

  • I was working on disabling un-needed services from upstart introducing related .override files in /etc/init/… after few reboots the problem is appeared, no login prompt, system unusable.

  • I connected the board to pc through otg (from u-boot) and moved all introduced /etc/init/*.override files in order to restore the original upstart boot procedure, rebooted and the system booted correctly.

  • I tried to reconstruct what happened, thus in order to understand what disabled service causing the issue, i reintroduced .override files one at a time (and rebooted). Result: now with all .override files (which presumably created the problem) the system boots correctly(it seems to be a nonsense)

I would to reprocude and undesrtand the problem in order to avoid it in production, any suggestion?

I really don’t think it has anything to do with SELinux at all.

After further investigation I noticed that the problem is easily reproducible:
if in kernel bootargs I set rootfs in read-only mode

emmcargs=ip = off root = / dev / mmcblk0p2 rw rootfstype = ext4 rootwait

the system stops at start up without any message.

I think there is a possibility that as a result of strange situations, the rootfs is remounted read-only, and at reboot it stucks (i don’t know where is the “errors=remount -ro” setting, i checked fstab and emmc file system settings with no luck)

My idea is to make the system compatible with read-only rootfs mount, there is a suggested way?

We do not know how this could be achieved on Ubuntu. I guess you may enquire Canonical about it though.

I solved the issue:

in order to mount rootfs in read-only mode you have to setup the “ro” setting consistently, both in u-boot and in /etc/fstab:

If the setting is not aligned between the two phases, the system inevitably locks itself by mistake when mounting the rootfs, with this message (shown if you have lightdm enabled only):

The disk drive for / is not ready yet or not present.
