iMX6ULL PHY Patch In Latest Tezi Image?

Hello,

I have been experiencing PHY connectivity issues with the Colibri iMX6ULL. After doing some digging, it appears that this is a result of an error with the KSZ8041’s software reset capabilities. A kernel patch was committed by Toradex on 2018-12-11 that remedies this issue by avoiding the PHY’s power down mode completely (see here).

I can confirm on my end that the patch linked above resolves the connectivity issues when running the base 2.8b4 image for the Colibri iMX6ULL. However, the last time the Toradex Easy Installer image was updated was on 2018-10-19, which is before this patch was released. As a result, I’m seeing connectivity issues inside the Tezi image and cannot update the image via a network connection.

Would it be possible to provide a Tezi image that has this kernel patch included? I have 20 SOMs that need to be programmed, and I’m fearful that the PHYs on these SOMs will have the software reset issues. Another question: does U-Boot require a similar patch? I do not see a patch in the 2016.11 U-Boot branch.

Thanks for the help,

Jeff

hi @jledin

Would it be possible to provide a Tezi image that has this kernel patch included?

We currently don’t have a version of Toradex Easy Installer which has this patch.

I have 20 SOMs that need to be programmed, and I’m fearful that the PHYs on these SOMs will have the software reset issues.

Are all these SOMs showing the issues? For the moment, I would recommend you to use SD Card or USB key for flashing.

Another question: does U-Boot require a similar patch?

No, U-Boot does not require any patch, since the PHY is not powered down in U-Boot.

Thanks for the help,

You are welcome.

Best regards,
Jaski
