imx290 kit seems to officially support Verdin and Apalis family carriers. But would I have troubles making imx290 work via MIPI on imx8x module?
is there some form of ISP on imx8x ?

Apparently, it won’t work. The camera seems to be compatible only with Apalis and Verdin. We also have this camera here: CSI Camera Set 5MP AR0521 Color, but is only compatible with Apalis.
