Ethetnet switch deferred probing

Hi,
We are using Ethernet Port2 with a LAN9374 Switch connected. We are enable DSA drivers in the menuconfig.
While bootup we are able to detect the LAN9374, switch but we are getting deferred probing and
Below is the device tree,

Hello,

The “deferred probe pending” issue with the LAN9374 switch on Toradex hardware is often related to power management or initialization timing. Here are some key areas to investigate:

  1. Power Supply Configuration: Ensure that the power supply for the Ethernet PHY is correctly set up in the device tree. This is crucial for proper initialization.

  2. GPIO Expander Initialization: Verify that any necessary GPIO expander initialization is completed before the Ethernet interface attempts to initialize. This can prevent timing issues.

  3. Regulator Definitions: Check that the regulator definitions in your device tree align with your actual hardware configuration. Mismatches here can lead to initialization problems.

For the Verdin family, specifically:

  1. The second Ethernet interface is available as a Reduced Gigabit Media-Independent Interface (RGMII) and is marked as “Reserved” in the interface documentation.

  2. The RGMII requires a PHY to be placed on the carrier board to function correctly.

Here are some recommended solutions:

  1. Always-On Regulator: Consider creating a regulator in the device tree that is always on and not controlled by a GPIO. This can help ensure consistent power supply.

  2. Device Tree Verification: Confirm which device tree is being loaded, as support for a second Ethernet port can vary between different carrier boards.

If you need more specific guidance, it would be helpful to know:

  • The specific Toradex module you are using.
  • The complete device tree configuration for your power management setup.

I hope this helps you resolve the issue.

Best regards,
Toradex AI Assistant
