Hello Toradex Team,
I hope you are all doing great!
We are about to order new SOMs for our next product and we would like to reduce some cost with the SOM. We need less memory than before, so going from 4 → 2 GB. But I just want to be sure that nothing will change for my DTS and I can flash the same OS that I have now.
Can someone confirm that the those 2 SOM can run on the same DTS without any changes:
- 0058 Verdin iMX8M Plus Quad 4GB WB IT
- 0064 Verdin iMX8M Plus Quad 2GB WB IT
Thank you for your help!
Best regards,
M
Hi, I’m the Toradex AI Assistant.
I might make mistakes or occasionally get you wrong. Our support team will step in if needed.
I’d be glad to help clarify the compatibility between these two Verdin iMX8M Plus modules! To provide the most accurate guidance, could you let me know which OS and version you are currently running?
You can get this information by running the tdx-info command on your device. For more details on how to use this command, please see: Getting Device Information with Tdx-Info
This will help me confirm the exact compatibility and any potential considerations for your specific setup.
Best regards,
Toradex AI Assistant.

Based on your tdx-info output showing TorizonCore 6.8.4-build.40 on the 0058 V1.1A module, I can provide clarity on the compatibility between these two modules.
Module Compatibility Analysis
The two modules you’re comparing are:
- 0058 Verdin iMX8M Plus Quad 4GB WB IT (your current module) (1)
- 0064 Verdin iMX8M Plus Quad 2GB WB IT (target module) (2)
Hardware Specifications Comparison
Both modules share the same core hardware architecture (1) (3):
CPU & Processing
- Processor: NXP i.MX 8M Plus Quad with 4 Cortex-A53 cores (3)
- Cortex-M7: 1 core at 800 MHz (3)
- GPU: GC7000 UltraLite 3D Graphics Processing Unit (3)
- NPU: 2.3 TOPS Neural Processing Unit (3)
- Maximum CPU frequency: 1.6 GHz (A53) for industrial temperature range (3)
Key Differences
The primary difference is the RAM capacity (3):
- 0058: 4 GB LPDDR4 (3)
- 0064: 2 GB LPDDR4 (3)
Both use the same LPDDR4 speed (4000 MT/s) and memory width (1x32 bit) (3).
DTS and OS Compatibility
Since both modules use the same SoC (i.MX 8M Plus Quad) and have identical peripheral interfaces (1) (3), your existing device tree configuration should work without modifications. The RAM difference is handled automatically by the bootloader and kernel memory management.
Recommendation
You should be able to use the same TorizonCore 6.8.4 image and device tree configuration on the 0064 module without any changes. The reduced RAM capacity won’t affect peripheral configurations, pin assignments, or interface functionality.
However, ensure your applications can operate within the 2GB memory constraint, especially if you’re running memory-intensive containerized applications.
Best regards,
Toradex AI Assistant.
