DDR Stress Test on Verdin iMX8MP

Hello Toradex Team,

I’m currently performing DDR validation on Verdin i.MX8M Plus + Mallow Carrier Board using the NXP DDR Stress Test Tool (i.MX/MSCALE DDR Tool).

When I click the “Download” button, the following messages appear:

Download is complete
Waiting for the target board boot...

After this point, the board does not proceed automatically, and no UART output appears unless a manual reset is performed.
I’m aware from your documentation that “the board might not auto-start after download,” but I’d like to clarify a few things regarding the DDR test procedure for the Verdin i.MX8M Plus.

My Questions

  1. DDR Test Binary

    • Does Toradex provide a specific DDR test binary image for Verdin i.MX8M Plus (e.g., imx8mp_ddr_stress_test.bin)?

    • Or should I build this binary myself from the NXP DDR Tool package or Verdin BSP source tree?

  2. .ds Script File

    • I understand that the .ds script is generated from MX8M_Plus_LPDDR_PRA_v9.xlsx using the NXP DDR Tool.

    • Is a ready-made .ds file for Verdin i.MX8M Plus available for download or reference?

  3. Additional Clarifications

    • Are there any board-specific initialization steps (e.g., reset timing, PMIC enable sequence) required to ensure the DDR tool test runs properly on the Verdin module?

    • Is there a recommended UART or boot mode configuration specifically for DDR testing on Mallow?

Thank you in advance for your guidance and for clarifying whether pre-built test binaries or .ds scripts are provided for the Verdin i.MX8M Plus DDR validation process.

Best Regards.

DDR Validation with Verdin i.MX8M Plus and Mallow Carrier Board

I understand you’re working on DDR validation using the NXP DDR Stress Test Tool with your Verdin i.MX8M Plus and Mallow Carrier Board setup. Based on the available documentation, I can provide some guidance on your hardware configuration.

Hardware Configuration Details

The Mallow Carrier Board V1.1 is confirmed to be compatible with the Verdin iMX8M Plus module (1). The latest datasheet for the Mallow Carrier Board V1.1 is available, which includes detailed specifications for your setup (1).

For the Verdin iMX8M Plus module, the V1.1 datasheet provides comprehensive interface descriptions, including SPI and other peripheral configurations that may be relevant for your DDR testing setup (2)(3).

UART Configuration for Testing

The Mallow carrier board uses 1.8V signal levels for the debug UART (1). For USB-UART converters, it’s recommended to use the FTDI TTL-232RG-VREG1V8-WE to ensure compatibility with the 1.8V levels (1).

Support Recommendation

For specific DDR test binaries, .ds script files, and detailed DDR validation procedures for the Verdin i.MX8M Plus, I recommend checking the following resources:

  • Community for DDR-specific discussions and solutions
  • GitHub for BSP source code and build instructions

The community forum may have specific threads addressing DDR validation procedures and any pre-built test binaries that other developers have used successfully with the Verdin i.MX8M Plus platform.
