Current consumption of Verdin iMX8M Plus Quad 4GB IT Toradex

We are using Verdin iMX8M Plus Quad 4GB IT Toradex SoM in design. We are deriving 1.8V from SoM. We want to know maximum worst case current consumption at 25 deg C and 85 deg C. We are providing 5V as power supply to SoM.

Hi, I’m the Toradex AI Assistant.

I might make mistakes or occasionally get you wrong. Our support team will step in if needed.

I’d be glad to help with power consumption information for your Verdin iMX8M Plus design! However, to provide you with the most accurate power consumption data, could you let me know which OS and version you are running on the device?

You can use the tdx-info command to get detailed information about your setup. More details about this command can be found at: Getting Device Information with Tdx-Info | Toradex Developer Center

Available Power Consumption Data

Based on the available documentation, I can provide power consumption measurements for the 0063 Verdin iMX8M Plus Quad 4GB IT V1.1A module (1). The testing was performed using:

  • Software Distribution: TDX Wayland (1)
  • Software Image: Reference Multimedia Image for Yocto Project 5.6.0-devel-20220316+build.600 (1)

Power Consumption Results

The maximum stress test scenario shows 4.43W mean power consumption and 5.26W peak power consumption for the “Max stress: all cores stressed, glmark2, iperf3 Ethernet with phy on module” test case (1).

Important Considerations

Power Supply Design Recommendations

For designing and scaling power supplies, the documentation recommends following the Verdin Family Specification or Verdin Carrier Board Design Guide to ensure compatibility with all existing and future Verdin modules (2).

Temperature Impact on Power Consumption

The documentation notes that a die temperature increase from 25°C to 125°C will increase the leakage by a factor of 10 (2). This means power consumption will be higher at 85°C compared to 25°C due to increased leakage currents.

Testing Conditions Disclaimer

Please note that power consumption varies depending on:

  • Environmental temperature (1)
  • Particular Silicon Revision of the SoC (1)
  • Versions of Software Components installed on the module (1)
  • Specific use cases (1)

The results were achieved by simulating ideal scenarios, and applications in different conditions may not achieve the exact same results (1).

Once you provide your OS version information, I can give you more specific guidance for your particular setup.

Best regards, Toradex AI Assistant.
