Apalis iMX6 Decode Problem

Hi community

I want to encode video data and decode it from Apalis iMX6

I am using Toradex Multimedia Reference Image with 5.4.129-5.4.0+git.cb88cc157bfb kernel.

Video encoder is FPGA based and streams it with this pipeline

gst-launch-1.0 -v v4l2src device=/dev/video4 io-mode=0 ! video/x-raw, width=1920, height=1080, framerate=60/1 ! omxh264enc target-bitrate=20000 ! h264parse  ! rtph264pay ! udpsink host=255.255.255.255 port=5004 

I am able to watch video from VLC with that SDP

a=rtpmap:96 H264/90000
v=0

I tried to decode it with Apalis but it didn’t
Decode pipeline is ;

And Apalis decoded it well.

How could it be a problem with decode side?

In order for me to understand your problem better, could you please share more information with us?

  • What error are you seeing? Could you please share the error logs and dmesg?
  • What carrier board and hardware are you using?
  • Did you make any modifications to your kernel?
  • Are you using a custom image?

I am using Ixora V1.0A with Apalis iMX6 2GB IT V1.1B

It is not a custom image and i didn’t make any modification!!

Image name is Toradex Embedded Linux Reference Multimedia Image 5.4.129-5.4.0+

There is no error message in first look but;

This is the decoder, nothing is displayed on the screen.

And the encoder side in this operation. Note: I am able to watch video on VLC I think there is no problem with encoding.

If we must be focused on problem, I have written a case which is “the decoder pipeline is working when i sourced the encoder with videotestsrc. What is the reason why can not decode Apalis h264 encoded data, which it was encoded with a /dev/video4 videosource”

There is one more error I tried to encode 1920x1080@30 videotestsrc and tested with decode by apalis and pc(VLC).

Apalis failed but VLC worked succesfully…

I think i found the major problem.
When i encode the the raw format as NV16. Decoder Apalis can not decode it.
But when i encode the raw format as NV12. Decoder Apalis is working good.
The major problem is the color format.
How can i decode the NV16 format encoded data on Apalis?
I cannot add any parameters on decode pipeline included format.
Does it matter what format it is encoded in?

Sorry for the late response, I have been trying to reproduce your problem on my side, but I couldn’t reproduce it properly.
One thing that I noticed here, you are using the VPU decoder, so I was taking a look into that, and apparently, it should work with the NV16. Running gst-inspect-1.0 imxvpudec:
