Is OpenRC officially supported by Torizon/OpenEmbedded? And can I build a stable TorizonCore with it instead of systemd?

OpenRC is not an offically supported init via Torizon. I did manage to find a layer for openRC that you could test out via a yocto custom build.

Is it a requirement to have OpenRC or just a preference for a certain goal?

It is not that mandatory to use OpenRC, but I personally prefer it over systemd.
