Linux BSD with Apalis TK1 and Colibri T30

Is it possible to programm those two boards (Apalis TK1 and Colibri T30 ) using Linux BSD ?

What do you mean by Linux BSD?

FreeBSD is a free and open-source Unix-like operating system descended from Research Unix via the Berkeley Software Distribution (BSD).

Yes, but what exactly does any of that have to do with Linux?

I’m sorry, I wanted to ask about FreeBSD. You are totally right that BSD and Linux are not related. So, is it possible to program the boards with FreeBSD ?

Anyway it looks like some people run FreeBSD or NetBSD on Jetson TK1 so it seems feasible. Please note however that our Apalis TK1 hardware is not exactly the same and most possibly requires adjustments. As for Tegra 3 aka T30 I could not find much information. One thing I do know is that at one point somebody ported FreeBSD to our Colibri VF50 as well. It also looks like Apalis iMX6 would be supported. We also do have some partner companies knowledgeable in FreeBSD.

Please also note that while Apalis TK1 belongs to the Apalis family of modules the Colibri T30 belongs to the Colibri family of modules and they won’t be compatible to the same carrier boards (e.g. Apalis TK1 fits Ixora while Colibri T30 fits Iris). That said there also would be an Apalis T30 belonging to that same Apalis family of modules as the Apalis TK1 (e.g. fitting Ixora as well).

Tank you very much for the Information. I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask my last question.
If my Company decide to program the boards with Linux or Windows Embedded, then how much do we have to pay for the license and are we paying for every board that we use, or we are paying only one time and can use the software for as many boards as we want ? We are planing to use around 200 such boards per year.

Embedded Linux is basically royalty free so you don’t have to pay anything however depending on what exactly you are doing with it you may be required to obtain certain re-distribution licenses for things like proprietary multimedia codecs.

The Windows Embedded Compact license is included with every module which does support Windows Embedded. More information about this may be found here or here.

Please note that e.g. Apalis TK1 does not support running Windows Embedded Compact and there are currently no plans to ever do so.

Thank you very much for your cooperation. So, do I understand correctly?
If we use the Apalis or the Colibri boards for our project, we don’t have to pay extra for the software (Linux or Windows Embedded Compact) and the Software is included with every module?

Thank you very much for your cooperation.

You are very welcome.

Yes.

and the Software is included with every module?

Yes, depending on what exactly you mean by “included with every module”.

While some of our modules do ship pre-installed with either of those OS’ you may need to install which ever different variant or customisation thereof you desire. In the future we actually even ship more and more modules with just the new Toradex Easy Installer pre-installed.
