I understand you’re experiencing HDMI display issues with your Verdin iMX8M Plus and Mallow Carrier Board when using Toradex Easy Installer. This is a known issue that several users have encountered with this specific hardware combination.

Common Solutions for HDMI Display Issues

1. Alternative Access Methods

Since the HDMI display isn’t working, you can still access Toradex Easy Installer through:

  • VNC Connection: Connect to the board via network and use VNC to access the GUI remotely(1)
  • Serial Console: Access the debug console through UART to monitor the boot process(2)

2. Hardware Connection Verification

Ensure proper setup according to the Mallow carrier board documentation(3):

  • Connect the HDMI cable before powering on the board (HDMI hotplug is not supported)(1)
  • Verify all power connections are secure
  • Check that the Ethernet connection is providing DHCP and internet access(3)

3. UART Interference Issue

Based on community reports, there’s a known issue where UART connections can interfere with HDMI output(2). Try these steps:

  • Power on without UART connected first
  • Only connect the UART cable after the system is fully booted
  • If UART is connected during boot, it may cause display signal loss(2)

4. Recovery Mode Process

To properly enter recovery mode(1):

  1. Follow the specific recovery mode instructions for Verdin iMX8M Plus with Mallow Carrier Board
  2. Use the USB OTG interface to load Toradex Easy Installer
  3. Monitor the process via serial console if HDMI isn’t working

5. Alternative Installation Methods

If HDMI continues to be problematic, consider:

  • Using VNC to access the Easy Installer GUI remotely over the network(1)
  • Loading images from external media (SD card or USB stick)(1)

The HDMI compatibility issues appear to be related to display timing, EDID detection, or hardware-specific compatibility between the Verdin iMX8M Plus HDMI output and certain displays(2).
