I’m afraid that the answer is yes, if you need chromium, or another browser.
As far as I understood, they use another technology (not a browser).
As an example, this one.

I cannot use chromium browser or any other browser based approach here as you shared in the link. I’ll have to build an completely independent GUI application based on a GUI framework called wxWidgets and cv library openCV.
For my clarity is this issue limited to chromium/other browsers only?
A purely QT based GUI application will be able to leverage the iMX8MP GPU without any hassle? Or say a GTK+ based application can use OpenGL/ hardware acceleration?

As far as I understood, no.
It’s a limit in GPU drivers from NXP, and they’re installed in weston-vivante
(Torizon OS 6) container.
weston-imx8
(Torizon OS 7) container should include fixed drivers from NXP.
And if you don’t use Chromium, you should be fine with Torizon OS 7.
I haven’t tested this, but I think you can try with the containers
Let me know the results of your tests.
PS: since you’re not interested in Chromium, I suggets you to open a new topic on the community (since this is a topic related to Chromium explicitly).
Thanks a lot for you support.
I’ll try few other containers as you suggested.
Best regards,
Samarth
