Colibri iMX6ULL Minimum Temperature

Hello. We noticed that recently Toradex changed the minimum temperature for Colibri iMX6ULL (Colibri iMX6ULL 512MB Wi-Fi / Bluetooth IT and Colibri iMX6ULL 512MB IT) to be -30C (NXP i.MX 6ULL - Arm Computer/System on Module iMX6ULL). We have existing clients in Northern Canada that need their devices to operate at -40C. For our next product we’re quite interested in using Colibri iMX6ULL if it wasn’t for this minimum operating temperature. Is there a chance it will be changed back to -40C?

Thank you,
Jared

Greetings Jared,

According to the datasheet it seems the temperature change from -40C to -30C was due to the new Wi-Fi module we are using (AW CM276NF DualBand Wi-Fi and Bluetooth module from Azurewave).

All the other components are still operable to -40C. If Wi-Fi is needed then you may need to make use of an external Wi-Fi module with the appropriate temperature range.

This developer article provides a list of tested modules with various temperature ranges: High performance, low power Embedded Computing Systems | Toradex Developer Center

Thank you Jeremias for the quick and knowledgeable response. We’ll look at potential WiFi hardware options that are operable at -40C then, as well as support simultaneous station and access point modes. A quick search shows that both SPB228 from H&D Wireless and ATWILC3000 from Microchip seem to be a good fit. Thanks!
