Colibri imx6ull: error on backports with kernel 4.14

Hi community,

I have a problem moving to kernel 4.14 and BSP 2.8.

I updated my kernel to the 4.14-2.0-imx-next branch using the recipes from BSP 3.0, but the backports stop to compile with this error: link text . Note that the linux toradex is built without any problem.

So I try to update the backports using the information from this post: link text . Here is my patch:link text but I have the following error: link text. The problem is the same even if I not update the SRCREV of the backports.

Any help will be appreciated.

Best,

Stefano.

Hi @Stefano

We deleted backports for the Bsp 3.0. You don’t need them any more.

Hi @jaski.tx ,

thank you for the answer.

I am using BSP 2.8 where backports are still present, for now I solved commenting the BT part in the config.

Why you removed backports in BSP 3.0?

Backports is a way to use mopre update driver on custom older kernel, right? Do you want to lose this possibility?

Best,

Stefano.

Perfectly that you solved your issue.

Thanks for your feedback. We know this. With the newer kernel and dropping support for the cheap wifi chip, there should be no need of Backports. There could be some exceptions, where you need the backports again, but till now, for most applications wifi interface is running stable.

Jaski

Hi @jaski.tx,

Thank you for your comment.

We are working on the colibri-imx6ull module with integrated wifi, and we are using the module with dual interface AP+STA.

Moving to kernel 4.14 I see that in next branch there are some patches about wifi, I don’t go deeply to see what is changed, but can you confirm that there are no advantages when using backported driver from newer kernel for the Marvell integrated chip?

Best,

Stefano.

Hi Stefano

You have some advantages using the driver from the newest kernel if you see some issues.

Since in Future, we would move to newer kernel (>5.3), this fixes will already included in the regular Bsp.

Best regards,
Jaski

Hi @jaski.tx

good news that you will move to newer kernel.

Do you have any schedule for this activity? In which BSP release?

Best,
Stefano.

BSP 4.0 will be available in two flavors, based either on downstream NXP 4.19 or upstream 5.4. The exact feature set of the two flavors will, of course, not match entirely. Upstream 5.4 is also what our TorizonCore will be based on.
